Is Hollywood’s ultimate action crossover in the works?
Imagine a world where two of the most iconic action heroes, John Wick and Robert McCall, join forces. According to director Antoine Fuqua, it’s not just a fantasy.
In a recent interview with CBR, Fuqua revealed his desire for a crossover between the two action-packed franchises. He believes that the characters, played by Keanu Reeves and Denzel Washington respectively, have “very complementary skills.”
Fuqua told CBR, “That’s an interesting question. I think it would be a lot of fun with John Wick. They are very different. If McCall needs some weapons or some guns, I would let John do that. When it comes to up-close brutality, let McCall handle that. They are very different.”
Both heroes have their unique ways of vanquishing enemies; John Wick is the artist with a gun, while Robert McCall is a trap-setting tactician who excels in hand-to-hand combat. Putting them together on the same side of a conflict would be like forming a super-team of near-invincible action figures.
However, the idea of a crossover comes with its own challenges. For starters, creating a narrative that puts these virtually unstoppable characters in jeopardy would be a tall order. Moreover, while Fuqua’s thoughts are sure to excite fans, the likelihood of this dream collaboration coming true seems slim.
Denzel Washington recently wrapped up his role as Robert McCall with The Equalizer 3, which was billed as the final installment in the franchise. On the other hand, John Wick: Chapter 4 seemed to wrap things up neatly, although a fifth chapter was once on the table.
The idea of a Wick-McCall crossover may be the stuff of fan fiction right now, but the very fact that a respected director like Antoine Fuqua is entertaining the thought means it’s a concept worth pondering.
So, while we may not get to see John Wick and Robert McCall clean house together anytime soon, the notion itself is enough to keep action aficionados buzzing. Whether it’s in the realm of possibility or a pipe dream, it’s an exhilarating idea that has set imaginations on fire.
