“The Idea of You” star Anne Hathaway recalled having to kiss ten different men during a “disgusting attractiveness test.
In a new interview for V magazine, Anne Hathaway shared how she felt about the strange practice she had to undergo if she wanted to work, that is, to get a role.
“In the 2000s, it happened to me too, it was normal to ask an actor to kiss other actors to test their mutual chemistry, which was actually the worst way to do it,” said Anne Hathaway.
“They told me ‘We have ten men coming. Aren’t you excited to kiss all of them?'”, she recalled.
“I thought, ‘Is something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded disgusting.”
The actress added that she was aware of how easily she could lose everything if she were labeled as “difficult” instead of being treated as “young.”
“I just pretended to be excited and kept going,” she added.
Although she did not mention which films were involved, she noted that that was how things were done at the time.
“It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be awful or to hurt me. It was a different time and now we know better,” she explained.
