Billie Eilish surprised her fans on March 16th when she announced her acting debut in Donald Glover’s new Amazon Prime series, “Swarm”. The series examines the dangers of stan culture and follows the story of Dominique Fishback’s character, Dre, as her obsession with pop star Ni’Jah takes a dark turn. Eilish’s character, Eva, is loosely inspired by members of the infamous NXIVM cult and makes her appearance in episode four of the series.

Fans of the young singer-songwriter have expressed excitement and anticipation for her acting debut.

One Twitter user commented, “Billie sounds like she could play a serial killer in the best way possible,” while another said, “I smelll Emmy?????” The show has already garnered positive reviews, and fan edits have started to flood social media platforms.

According to Rolling Stone, Eilish was chosen for the role by casting director Carmen Cuba, despite the singer’s lack of scripted experience. Showrunner Janine Nabers spoke to Rolling Stone about Eilish’s involvement, saying, “We were looking to cast the episode and she suggested Billie, and I said, ‘Does she act?’ And she said, ‘Yeah.’ And I said, ‘What has she been in?’ And she said, ‘Nothing.'” Eilish isn’t the only debutante in “Swarm”.

Malia Obama, daughter of former US President Barack Obama, earned her first official TV writer credit on the series with episode five, “Girl, Bye”. Nabers teased that the episode is “probably one of the wildest episodes” and “pretty dope”. The series also stars singer Chlöe Bailey and features appearances by Paris Jackson, Rory Culkin, and Kiersey Clemons. All seven episodes are already available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.

Eilish’s acting debut is yet another surprising move in the young artist’s career. Known for her unique style and powerful voice, she has been breaking boundaries and setting new standards in the music industry since she first burst onto the scene. It remains to be seen whether her acting talent will be as well-received as her music, but fans are eager to see what she can bring to the table.
