Robert Pattinson is related to Vlad the Impaler!
You know how Robert Pattinson, our beloved Edward Cullen, played a vampire? Well, get this: he’s actually distantly related to Vlad the Impaler, the real-life inspiration for Dracula. Yeah, the OG vampire himself! Pretty wild, right?
This spooky connection was discovered by Ancestry.com, a popular genealogy website. They traced Pattinson’s lineage all the way back to the 15th century and found out that Pattinson shares blood (ironically) with Vlad III Dracula, a brutal ruler known for his love of impaling enemies. So, you could say vampires run in the family!

Anastasia Tyler, a genealogist at Ancestry.com, said that tracing Pattinson’s roots back to Vlad wasn’t an easy task, but it sure made an exciting story. It’s like life imitating art – Pattinson portraying a vampire on screen, while having an actual vampire in his family tree.
Pattinson, in case you’ve been living under a rock, is famous for his role as the vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga. The movies, based on Stephenie Meyer’s books, have been crazy successful, making over $1.1 billion worldwide. The next movie in the series, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” is set to come out on June 30.
The genealogists at Ancestry.com say Pattinson and Vlad are probably related through the British royal family. Pattinson himself is a distant cousin of Prince William and Prince Harry. The connection likely comes from the Pickering family, who lived in northern England in the early 1500s.
So, there you have it: without any magic or myth, we’ve got both royalty and vampires in Pattinson’s history. Makes his role as Edward Cullen even cooler, doesn’t it?
Oh, and Pattinson isn’t the only one with an intriguing past. Ancestry.com found out last year that Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” movies, is related to a woman accused of witchcraft in the 16th century. Isn’t history wild?
