According to Scorsese’s opinion, the three greatest actors of all time are Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Adam Driver, but DiCaprio is the greatest.
Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio began their collaboration more than 20 years ago, when DiCaprio starred in “Gangs of New York,” and their latest project together was last year’s thriller, “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
In the film, DiCaprio played Ernest Burkhart, who, along with his uncle (Robert De Niro), was involved in the murders of wealthy Osage Indians.
Scorsese’s latest film has received widespread acclaim, and at the recent National Board of Review awards ceremony in New York, it won three awards. Actress Lilly Gladstone, who portrayed Ernest’s wife Mollie, won the award for Best Actress, while Scorsene garnered awards for Best Director and Best Film.
During his speech, the renowned director specifically praised Leonardo DiCaprio, calling him one of the greatest actors in film history, according to IndieWire.
“He couldn’t come today for a very good reason… He’s preparing for a new film by Paul Thomas Anderson. Bob De Niro first told me about Leo DiCaprio after working with him on ‘This Boy’s Life.’ He told me, ‘You have to work with this kid one day.’ Until then, De Niro had never recommended anyone to me,” Scorsese recalled.
“In the 23 years we’ve worked together, we’ve made six films… I believe in him. I know I can rely on him. He completely immerses himself in the person he’s trying to portray. His fearlessness is something that fills me with life when I need to make a film,” added the acclaimed director.
Scorsese also explained that “Killers of the Flower Moon” represents the pinnacle of their collaboration, and that he was able to shoot some key scenes, like the courtroom scene during Ernest’s trial, on the first try, thanks to DiCaprio.
“You hate him, but you love him… all the contradictions of what makes us human. I truly know he is one of the greatest actors in the history of film. I am grateful to him for everything,” Scorsese declared.
