When we moved from a small apartment into our newly built house, the guest bedroom sat empty for a few months.

Not because I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it, but because building a house drained our budget. The cost of everything went through the roof in less than two years.
So that room had to wait. When I finally got to it, I wasn’t about to throw a lot of money into it.
I just wanted a space where someone could stay and feel comfortable. Nothing fancy, just a room that feels nice to walk into.
Over time, I figured out a few simple ways to make it look good without spending much, and that’s what I’m sharing here.
Things I Learned Designing a Guest Room in Our House
Keep it simple. I’d go with a more minimal setup because it’s easier to maintain and keep clean. Less stuff means less dust and less effort overall.
Make sure there’s a garbage can in the bathroom. It sounds basic, but it’s one of those things guests notice right away if it’s missing.
Have a few pillow options. People like different heights and firmness, so having a couple of choices makes a big difference for a good night’s sleep.
Leave some empty surfaces. It’s easy to decorate every corner, but guests need space to put down a book, phone, or small bag. If everything is covered, it becomes annoying fast.
Add lamps to the bedside tables. Not everyone wants to use the main light, especially at night.
Stock the basics and then some. Towels, toilet paper, and soap are a must. Running out of any of these can ruin the whole stay. If you have an attached bathroom, it’s nice to have extras like a toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine products, or deodorant.
Think about comfort. Blackout curtains help with sleep, a fan can make the room more comfortable, and a power strip makes it easy to charge phones and other devices.
And don’t forget a full-length mirror. It’s one of those small things that makes the room feel more complete.
