For those who love The Kissing Booth, Jacob Elordi and Joey King’s relationship timeline may seem odd.
The two started dating in 2017 when they appeared in The Kissing Booth, a movie about a teenage girl who dates her best friend’s older sibling.
Despite receiving mixed receptions, the movie, based on Beth Reekles’ novel of the same name, has been watched by millions of people, most of whom are curious about the two actors’ relationship in real life.
After meeting on the set, the two dated for some time before breaking up in 2019.
Let us look at their relationship timeline.
The two started dating when The Kissing Booth began filming in Los Angeles and Cape Town, South Africa since there were scenes filmed at the University of Cape Town.
In May, King stated that even though she thought Elordi was attractive, they began as friends before deciding to start a relationship.
At the time, Elordi revealed, “Was it love at first sight? Well, I thought he was very cute when we first met, but it started as a friendship.

Right away, we were talking about gross things with each other (laughing).
But before long, I started to realize, ‘Hey, I think I kind of like this person!’
It was such an interesting experience meeting your boyfriend on set because you spent so much time together and became close quickly.
We spent 17 hours a day together, and all of us would hang out after work and watch movies together. It was great.”
February 2017
Even though it is unclear when they officially started their love relationship, Elordi revealed in May 2018 that they decided to start a relationship a month into filming.
She stated, “When we first met, me, him, and Joel went out to dinner, and we had the best, most fun night ever.
By the end of dinner, we had like six inside jokes.
We were so close, and I was just best friends with Jacob throughout filming. I guess there was no moment, but I feel like the friendship naturally was like, ‘Oh hey, this person is super frickin’ awesome.
We have so much in common, and we love spending time together. Maybe there’s something more there.'”
She went on to reveal how they were open with each other, and after the first month, she felt she liked him.

As the year ended, they traveled to Australia together.
August 2018
King talked about their relationship during an interview at the Teen Choice Awards.
At the time, they had dated for more than a year.
She revealed that having Elordi as her boyfriend was good for their relationship.
She revealed, “You know what, it does help.
It helps to have somebody by your side, cheering you on, who knows what you’re going through and who’s been through it themselves.”
She also said they loved reading books, rollerskating, and going to the beach together.
November 2018
Fans started speculating that the two had separated after Elordi announced that he was taking a break from social media.
He posted, “G’day! Like to take a moment to thank everyone for the support over the last year.
I’m incredibly grateful to connect with so many of you. I will be signing off on this whole social media shabang while I work. Cheers for everything, stay happy :).”
He later deleted his Instagram account.
The actress posted on Twitter, “Thank god I have my dog tho.”
King deleted all her photographs of them together.
August 2019
Less than a year later, the two reunited in The Kissing Booth 2.
Both had agreed to reprise their roles as Noah and Elle, and filming was completed in August 2019.
In October, King revealed that she was fine when asked how it felt to film with her ex.
She said, “It’s a great movie.
I am a fan of how it resonated with the world, and it resonated with me.
So going back, doing that, and making the sacrifice is what everyone is thinking about.
I’m not outwardly addressing, but what I’m kinda on the sly addressing, making those sacrifices was worth it.”
She also stated, “I am very much, like, a freakin’ huge fan of The Kissing Booth myself, which sounds narcissistic, but I am. It’s my night light at night.
Because I don’t want to watch ‘Oh, I don’t know what’s going to happen, and I’m really invested to see what thing they’re baking on the Great British Baking Show.’
I’ve already seen The Kissing Booth.”
