10 Best Anime Boys of all Time in 3 Categories: Ranked

Anime series have been around for 60 years, and that being said – it’s no wonder so many people watch it daily.

Just like any other series, anime world has a lot of amazing characters, some of them villains, some of them the sweetest characters ever.

Read on to find out the best anime boys in three categories: hottest, greatest, and a special category for male characters with the best redemption arc.

(Note: The first category is solely based on the article writer’s taste and is subjective.)

Ichigo Kurosaki
Ichigo Kurosaki

Top 10 Hottest Boys from Anime

I don’t think this category needs a lot of explanation, just google and you’ll understand why every one of these guys ended up on the Hottest list:

  1. Levi Ackerman from “Attack on Titan”
  2. Ichigo Kurosaki from “Bleach”
  3. Gray Fullbuster from “Fairy Tail”
  4. Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez from “Bleach”
  5. Sasuke Uchiha from “Naruto”
  6. Satoru Gojo from “Jujutsu Kaisen”
  7. Eren Yeager from “Attack on Titan”
  8. Zero Kiryu from “Vampire Knight”
  9. Toga Yagari from “Vampire Knight”
  10. Kiba from “Wolf’s Rain”

Yes, I have a thing for emotionally damaged, tall and slim guys.

And yes, I know some of these can be called villains, but hear me out – that’s why we have two more categories.

Roy Mustang

Top 10 Greatest Anime Male Characters

This category also does not need any explanation.

In the eyes of the author, in order to be one of the greatest male characters, the boy should not do any harm or criminal acts, but rather protect those around him with his life.

  1. Roy Mustang from “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood”
  2. Naruto Uzumaki from “Naruto”
  3. Ken Kaneki from “Tokyo Ghoul”
  4. Erwin Smith from “Attack on Titan”
  5. Minato from “Naruto”
  6. Decim from “Death Parade”
  7. Levi Ackerman from “Attack on Titan”
  8. Neji Hyuga from “Naruto”
  9. Edward Elric from “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood”
  10. Kiba from “Wolf’s Rain”

Top 10 Male Characters fulfilling their Redemption Arcs

According to the World Wide Web, plenty of anime male characters have completed their redemption arcs, but there’s a lot to disagree with.

For example, we can all agree Orochimaru from Naruto did not redeem himself, despite all his efforts and sacrifices.

Important note: unlike the first two categories, this one contains plenty of spoilers.

Here are some male characters whom I feel really redeemed themselves:

  1. Hohenheim from “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” – Edward and Alphonse’s father is a passive character in the anime.

Having lost everyone at one point, the guilt ate him up from the inside and he decided to be a human shield for his family, fighting to protect Izumi Curtis, his sons and several others.

  1. Ulquiorra from “Bleach” – at the moment of dying, Ulquiorra, one of the most evil villains in Bleach, said that just because he doesn’t have the heart muscle, doesn’t mean he is heartless.

This goes as a final apology to Orihime.

  1. Obito Uchiha from “Naruto” – during his final moments, Obito sacrifices himself for Rin, and gives his left Sharingan to Kakashi.

Spoiler alert: he is revived, so his sacrifice did not go in vain!

  1. Guts from “Berserk” – Having overcome his obsession with revenge, Guts starts processing his trauma instead of focusing on revenge.

He finally is at peace with his inner self and with those around him.

  1. Piccolo from “Dragon Balls” – he is the dark half of Kami, not caring for anyone until he adopts Gohan.

Having devoted his life to killing Goku, he redeems all his acts of hatred when he sacrifices himself to save Goku.

  1. Gaara from “Naruto” – this is another redemption arc that not many agree with.

Gaara’s self-sacrifice as he saves the Sand Village from Akatsuki is an amazing character development, as well as a great attempt to redeem himself.

  1. Greed from “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” – one of the seven Homunculi created by Father so they can shield him.

Greed is stuck inside Ling’s body, and he sacrifices himself to Father in order to protect Ling, and through this sacrifice he enables the Elric brothers to destroy him.

  1. Pain/Nagato from “Naruto” – One of the villains in Naruto, he eventually uses his rinne rebirth on the whole leaf village reviving Kakashi and everyone else, even though he should be fighting against them.
  2. Hendrickson from “The Seven Deadly Sins” – he manipulated his way through the series, but realized what a big mistake he had made by reviving the ten Commandments.

He sides with the Seven Deadly Sins to try and undo this, therefore protecting the kingdom and redeeming himself.

  1. Itachi from “Naruto” – he was given a choice to rescue himself and his brother or everyone gets killed.

He helps Sasuke develop Mangekyo Shanringan as a redemption deed.
